Who are we?

Ballet Basics is a dancewear shop run from home in Edgemead, Cape Town that prides itself on personalised service and quality products. We do not only focus on ballet but include all dance forms. It is not only dancers who purchase from us but gymnasts, ice skaters too.

We strive to offer the friendliest and best service possible.

Ballet Basics is run by Belinda Mortley and as a mom of a dancer she realises how much children and especially girls, love to dance but is also aware of their parent's pockets.

Belinda bought the business in July 2008 and has built it up to the successful business it is today not just supplying local studios and dancers but also dancers further afield .  Much of the stock is bought from local businesses in South Africa and especially the Cape Town area and Belinda and knowing the individual staff who manufacture the garments and shoes is important to us.

Service as well as ensuring the correct fit is important to Belinda so it is far better for the dancer concerned to come for a fitting.  We do offer an online shop for convenience for those who are unable to pop into the shop.

What we offer

Ballet Basics offers a wide range of dancewear at affordable prices and exceptional service. Dance teachers can avail themselves of a fitting service at their studio for uniform items to suit their requirements.

Pointe shoe fittings are offered on an appointment basis  in store , so please ensure that you call ahead.

A wide range of dancewear is available. This includes leotards, skirts, a variety of dance shoes, hair accessories and a full range of tights. Additional items can be sourced depending on your requirements.

The space for stock is limited but should you be looking for a particular style / colour, orders can be placed but this does take extra time. This applies to individual dancers as well as studios.
